Outdoor application index

Performance questions by product system

Each application changes the balance between mass, tear resistance, air flow, moisture transport, weather barrier, packability, hand, seam construction and care. The list below identifies review priorities rather than guaranteed properties.

Outdoor garment and equipment fabric application index

Face textile, coating or membrane, backing, seam route and garment ventilation form one barrier system. Record composition, denier, construction, GSM, usable width, color, finish and care. Hydrostatic head must retain method, pre-treatment and units; moisture transfer or air-permeability values must name the procedure. Prototype review covers seam sealing, panel orientation, hood and closure zones without treating a fabric test as automatic garment approval.

Low mass and packability need balanced evaluation against air permeability, tear behavior, abrasion exposure and desired hand. Calendering or other finishing may change air flow and down or fiber retention. A trial should state test direction, specimen conditioning, seam and quilting route, insulation pairing and laundering. Results from one finish, shade or production lot are not extended automatically to another.

Outer and liner fabrics influence air exchange, moisture handling, tactile comfort, insulation containment and total system mass. Specify fabric role, construction, GSM, width, finish, quilting pattern and care route. Downproof or fiber-retention language requires an applicable method and specimen. Thermal performance belongs to the complete sleeping system and cannot be inferred from the shell textile alone.

Equipment zones face different puncture, abrasion, tear, coating adhesion and seam stresses. State load path, contact surface, construction, finish, reinforcement, hardware interface and expected exposure. Lab tests help compare controlled specimens, while prototypes reveal folding, stitching, seam and edge behavior. Acceptance remains connected to the approved structure and production lot.
